When your son stands 6 feet 9 inches tall, it might seem odd to refer to him as “Little Kyle.” But that’s how Kyle Anderson, Sr. will always think of Kyle Anderson, Jr. — even if the latter is now a star forward for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.
Simply put, the two share a close bond. So when the son learned that the father planned to retire, he offered to buy him a gift to mark the occasion. But not just any gift.
“I used to drive a Celica, but I always dreamed of owning a Supra,” says the elder Anderson. “When my son said he would buy me any car I wanted, including a Maserati or a Mercedes-Benz, I told him I wanted a Supra. Toyota had just come out with the new one.”
So the younger Anderson set the wheels in motion, eventually placing a call to Faulkner Toyota in Trevose, Pennsylvania.
“My best friend knows Kyle and referred him to me,” says James Fitzgerald, the sales consultant who facilitated the transaction. “He was having a hard time finding the car he wanted, in Nitro Yellow.”
Fitzgerald conferred with General Sales Manager Brandon Muffet, who included Scott Neiheisel, assistant general manager of Central Atlantic Toyota, in the conversation. Within a few days, they found exactly what the Andersons were looking for. And a couple of weeks after that, it arrived at the dealership.
All that was left was for Kyle Anderson, Sr. to make the one-hour drive from his home in New Jersey to Faulkner Toyota, about 20 miles north of Philadelphia, to take delivery.
“Kyle received the same delivery process as all of my other customers,” says Fitzgerald. “He was elated with how easy it all was and how quickly it transpired. In the end, that’s what it’s all about — taking care of the customer, no matter who that customer is or what vehicle they’re buying.”
