Chalk It Up to Education
Peterson Toyota of Sarasota awarded Sarasota County Schools employee Gena Bufkin with a pre-paid lease on a new Corolla. She was recognized for her outstanding work as a school support staff member.
The leadership staff at Peterson Toyota of Sarasota takes education seriously. So, for the third year in a row, they were proud to present a new Corolla to an outstanding local school employee.
Last month, Gena Bufkin was named the 2019 School-Related Employee of the Year in Sarasota County, Florida. She was handed the keys to the Corolla, which came with a three-year, pre-paid lease — compliments of the dealership.
“It’s an honor to win the award, but I was not expecting a car at all,” says Bufkin, an administrative assistant at Sarasota County Schools for the past 14 years. “I was shocked.”

Peterson Toyota partners with the local school district for the award, which recognizes outstanding education support personnel. Bufkin will now be among a group of winners from the state’s 67 school districts vying to become the Florida Department of Education’s School-Related Employee of the Year.
“Each year, we are humbled by the incredible group of people nominated for this award,” says Nick Waddell, general manager of Peterson Toyota of Sarasota. “Gena embodies what we truly believe in — trying to make the community around you better today than it was yesterday. She does it each day with her students.”
