Sunnyside Toyota partnered with five local animal rescue groups to find homes for more than two dozen animals. Afterwards, Finance Director Lori Sovey-Strah (right) and daughter Kayda Strah (left), presented a check for $5,000 to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter.
More than two dozen rescue animals have new forever homes, thanks to the generosity of Sunnyside Toyota in North Olmsted, Ohio. Last month, the dealership hosted the Sunny Days Adopt-a-Thon event for the fourth year running.

About 250 people stopped by the showroom for the event, which hosts several local animal rescue groups providing on-site adoptions. Volunteers and dealer associates helped place 22 dogs and puppies with local families, along with four cats.

“We got together as a group and decided we wanted to give back to our community,” says Finance Director Lori Sovey-Strah, who coordinated the event. “Our associates talked about what kind of activities they’d like to support, and animals were a priority. We partnered with local animal rescue groups, and it’s just grown from there — both in the number of animals we’ve helped find forever homes and the amount of money we’ve been able to donate.”

This year’s Adopt-a-Thon raised nearly $10,000 in raffle ticket sales, donations and gift basket auctions for five local rescue groups: The Cleveland Animal Protective League, R.E.A.L Rott Rescue, Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, Maggie’s Mission and ROAR Animal Rescue. The donations will be used to provide shelter, food and medical care to the thousands of animals those groups take into their care each year.

Sovey-Strah say she’s grateful for the community’s support — which extends beyond the dealership’s customer base.

“Every year at this event, I meet people who have never been to our dealership, but they come here for this,” she says. “Ultimately, we want to support these groups and the animals who need the help. If we get new customers walking through the door, that’s just a bonus.”
