A True Team
Team Toyota during their AIDS/Lifecycle journey.

The AIDS/Lifecycle journey isn’t for the faint of heart. So, the 10 members of Toyota’s first AIDS/Lifecycle team earned respect by partaking in the 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles earlier this month.

The team -- which included eight team members along with two friends from outside the company -- was the brain-child of Ryan Hines, Toyota Financial Services corporate communications senior analyst. Hines first rode in the event in 2017, and decided to form a Toyota team this year.

He found allies in TFS Remarketing, which donated nearly 70 vehicles to support this year’s ride. And he found teammates around the organization, from Stephen Hughes at the Toyota Research Institute, to Gus Camacho of TMNA, to Juan Gomez from Frontier Toyota in Valencia, California.

This year, AIDS/Lifecycle set a record as some 2,400 riders raised $16.6 million to help end AIDS. More than $43,000 of that came from Team Toyota.

AIDS/Lifecycle is a life-changing experience for its participants, particularly if they’ve been directly affected by the disease. We documented their journey here.
