Toyota clearly intends to press that advantage, as evidenced by the three new models coming out this fall: TRD Sport versions of the 2018 Tundra and Sequoia and an all-new Adventure grade for the 2018 RAV4.
Tundra TRD Sport
For example, the Tundra TRD Sport promises to deliver enhanced driving performance thanks to TRD Sport-Tuned Bilstein Shocks and TRD front and rear anti-sway bars. These upgrades are available on 4x4 and 4x2 Tundras in CrewMax and Double Cab configurations powered by the 5.7-liter i-Force V8 engine.
Several exterior and interior design cues hint at the Tundra TRD Sport’s beefed-up suspension:
- Color-keyed mirrors, front and rear bumpers and hood scoop
- 20-inch alloy silver sport wheels
- LED headlights with black bezel
- Mesh grille with body-color surround
- TRD Sport graphics, such as along the bedside and on the shift knob and floor mats
Meanwhile, every model in the Tundra line gets a refresh for 2018 — headlined by the addition of Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) as standard equipment on every variation of Toyota’s full-size pickup truck. This multi-feature advanced active safety suite bundles a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist Function, Auto High Beams and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
On track and off road, the 2018 Tundra TRD Sport is dressed to impress. Note, among other unique features, the hood scoop, 20-inch alloy silver sport wheels and bedside graphic.
Sequoia TRD Sport
The new addition to the Sequoia range for 2018 will also benefit from TRD Sport-Tuned Bilstein Shocks and TRD front and rear anti-sway bars. Those upgrades will become apparent only when you get a chance to drive the vehicle. But you’ll know you’re sitting in a Sequoia TRD Sport when you spot the new:
- Front grille with gloss black insert and black accents
- Front bumper
- 20-inch alloy black sport wheels
- Smoked rear taillight lens
- Black satin finish TRD Sport badging on the front doors
- TRD shift knob, floor mats and sill protectors
- Standard black fabric seven-passenger seating
- Optional black leather-trimmed captain chair seating
All versions of the Sequoia — from the new TRD Sport to the continuing SR5, Limited and Platinum grades in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations — will be powered by the i-Force V8 engine. And, like the Tundra, they’ll all come standard with TSS-P.
The 2018 Sequoia TRD Sport has what it takes to go father, from its 5.7-liter i-Force V8 engine to its TRD Sport-Tuned Bilstein Shocks and TRD front and rear anti-sway bars.
Other 2018 updates of note include a new instrument panel gauge cluster and Multi-Information Display and an updated center console set off by wood-like interior trim accents.
Toyota anticipates that active young families will gravitate to this all-new version of the hot-selling compact crossover. Whether it’s equipped with an Automatic Limited-Slip Differential or the all-wheel-drive Dynamic Torque Control, the RAV4 Adventure will come fitted with a standard Tow Prep Package that includes an upgraded radiator and supplemental engine oil and transmission fluid coolers. And it will ride on a uniquely tuned suspension that sits nearly a half-inch higher than standard for enhanced handling.
Also setting this new RAV4 apart will be distinctive:
- Large overfender flares
- 18-inch five-spoke black alloy wheels
- Front and rear skid guards and rocker panel guards
- Front and rear bumpers with gray lower scuff plates
- Black headlight bezels, fog lamp surround, roof rack and Adventure badging
- Unique interior trim panels
- Door sill protectors
- All-weather Adventure logo on floor and cargo area mats
- Leather-wrapped shift knob
- 120v/100w power outlet in cargo area
And just like the other two models it joined in the Chicago Auto Show spotlight, all 2018 RAV4 grades will come standard with TSS-P — enhanced with Hill-Start Assist Control.
