Toyota Super Fans: FJ Summit

For a few days every summer, Ouray, Colorado is overtaken by Toyotas.
 
FJ Cruisers, Land Cruisers and 4Runners find their way to the tiny mountain town, driven by people who love nothing more than ascending over unpredictable terrain to heights topping 14,000 feet.
 
The FJ Summit is a chance for these drivers to show off their rigs – both stock and modified – and skills. And even though the Summit is open to other makes, a vast majority of the vehicles that swarmed Ouray in July bore a Toyota or Lexus logo. After all, this is a place for Toyota super fans to flex.
 
“We all have one thing in common, and it’s the FJ,” says Jessica Larson, an FJ Summit trail leader. “And if it’s not an FJ, it’s the 4Runner, it’s the Tacoma, it’s the Lexus GX 460 and 470."
 
That’s why we tagged along with co-director Matt Robb and his family as they made their way up Mineral Creek, a difficult 13.6-mile trail that was no problem for Robb’s Land Cruiser or the 4Runner driven by his step daughter, Penelope Baggett.
